This 1890s original gold pin features a horseshoe with a prong-set natural pearl at the top center flanked by seven prong-set rubies. The horseshoe is crossed by a riding crop with a textured woven design on the whip and a beehive design on the handle. The crop is tipped by a natural pearl. The whip end is wrapped around the handle at the center of the pin. There is a safety clasp on the back. Marked on back with unidentified mark and 585 (14Kt gold). The brightly colored polychrome design displays two ornamental doves in a Tree of Life with pink, yellow and blue bell-shaped flowers growing from a heart with a pink daisy in its center. The front is inscribed: RUTH EMMA BATHOLOMEW and WILLIAM NEWMAN RICHARDS, MARRIED JUNE 16, 1925 SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA . On the reverse there is a hand-painted explanation of the symbolism of the plate's design. Custom made by The Friendship Shop, Buckhill Falls, Pennsylvania.
