Trinket Box Heart-shaped Porcelain with Coat of Arms Hand-painted Vintage 3" x 3
Period:
Turn of the century
Description:
This delicate hand-painted heart-shaped porcelain box displays a coat of arms, similar to the British Howard family crest. The piece is replete with wonderful flourishes and details: the escutcheon or shield bears a white (argent) bar dexter on a red (gules) ground with three gold crosses on each side, and a gold coronet for a crest. As supporters, a lion appears dexter and a horse sinister. Inscribed on a blue banner is the motto "Sola Virtus Invicta" (Virtue Alone is Invincible). Two gold batons with black ends are crossed (in saltire) behind the shield, and polychrome painted flowers and white scrollwork surround the coat of arms. They also appear on the sides and interior of the box. The box and hinged lid have white metal edging and a shell-shaped closure. Taken as a whole it is charming, and quite memorable.

Title:
Antique Box Trinket Enamel Brass Patch Friendship Battersea Box 18th C
Period:
18th century
Description:
This 18th Century sentimental hand-painted enamel box with porcelain top was intended for decorative face patches or other small trinkets. Suitors would give the ladies they were interested in a tiny gift in a box. The box is oval with a domed lid, and the inside cover boasts a small metal mirror. The top features the sweet endearment "A small Token of Friendship" around an urn in a cartouche with decorative flowers and an encircling vine in black on a white ground. The bottom is a lovely lavender seems like enamel on copper, and the mountings are brass. The inside has a steel mirror that has dulled with age. A beautiful piece which harkens evocatively back to a bygone era. The lid closes and fits perfectly. There seem to be some discolorations, and some damage, but not bad for it's age.

Title:
Antique Snuff-Box with Portrait Miniature Signed 2.5" Diam,
Period:
18th century
Description:
Hand painted miniature portrait, signed by the artist "Remi" on top of a white snuff box. Late 1700s to early 1800s Century. It may have been done after a more famous artist's painting. This fine lovely well preserved painting is of a beautiful young lady of the 18th Century fashion. It is on thin natural wafer, and it has no chips or cracks. I could not take it out to examine it without the danger of damaging it, so what you're seeing here are digital photos through the cover. It is in very good condition for its age, other than the two age cracks which are visible in our images. There is no damage to the painting.
It closes perfectly.
Simple gold band frames the portrait. Not tested, but I strongly believe it to be gold. The miniature painting is on natural material
