This vintage 1940s graduated double strand cultured Akoya pearl necklace is part of a very fine estate I am selling. The 107 pearls are white with soft pink overtones and gorgeous luster, measuring from 5.5 mm to 8.5 mm. The original 14 K white gold box clasp is set with numerous good quality white diamonds, approximate total weight 0.45 ct. There is a 14 K stamp on the clasp, and also acid tested and guaranteed to be as it stated. Recently re-strong on white silk thread. In excellent vintage condition. Classic vintage 16" long 1920s 14 Kt yellow gold shiny ball bead necklace graduated from 3.5 to 7 mm. The polished shiny balls have a barrel clasp marked 14 K. It is strung on a fox tail-style woven chain. The chain is not gold, which is typical for these necklaces were made at the time. They did that, so it would not break as often as gold would from the constant rubbing when worn. It is in excellent condition with no dents. The new ones that they make today dent easily, because they are made from much thinner, lighter gold.
All the beads are in excellent vintage condition.

Vintage Japanese Akoya cultured pearl necklace was originally purchased in the 1950s. The necklace consists of 84 cultured pearls 3mm. Strung continuously on a white silk thread, hand knotted. The white pearls are well matched with brilliant luster and has a slightly pinkish sheen. Total weight: 88.9 grams Cultured pearls come from pearl farms, where an irritant introduced into the shells which causes a pearl to grow. They may be saltwater pearls or freshwater pearls, depending where the pearl farm is.

Saltwater pearls are cultured in mussels grown in ocean. The three most common types of saltwater pearls are Akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls and South Sea pearls.

Freshwater pearls are cultured in mussels grown in
freshwater environment, like lakes or rivers. Most freshwater
pearls come from China.
The depth of the nacre coating
depends on the type of mollusk involved, the water it lives in,
and how long the intruder is left in place before being harvested.
As nacre thickness increases, so does the quality and durability
of the cultured pearl.
