Late 18th early 19th Century continental ash marquetry blanket chest,
probably South German, with rectangular top and French corners in
front. Two marquetry inlaid reserves depicting birds on a branch in
cartouche. similarly inlaid front, a cross-band border, oversize metal
handles on sides, central hand wrought decorative metal escutcheon.
Molded rail about 2/3rds down with matching base rail, four bun feet,
hand wrought metal hinges. It is in good antique condition, some age

"On the Beach at Clovelly 1880 Worcester" hand written by the artist
on the back of the painting. On the front lower left signed James
Bradley 1880. This serenely charming work depicts a fisherman
mending nets with his wife standing next to him. She holds a large
wicker basket, pausing a moment in the midst of her daily chores.
Behind the couple there are two crisply rendered fishing boats and
nets drying on a rack, with the sea lapping off into the wide distance
beyond. The atmospheric seaside rendering is complemented by the
quiet introspection both figures evoke. James Bradley was an English painter from Worcester, England born around 1848. Clovelly is a village in Devon, England. The large original carved wooden frame features palmette and beaded borders. The painting is in great antique condition. Some damage only to the frame. This wonderful high grade 18k yellow gold men's pocket watch is
fitted with a stem winding 21j lever movement by C. H. Meylan, and
retailed by Tiffany & Co. Circa 1920. The silver color dial has gold
numbers and gold hands and an outer minute chapter ring as well as
a sub-dial second at 6'o clock. The open face watch case is hand
crafted thick solid 18k gold by the Cresarrow Watch Co of New
Jersey. It is in very good condition, with minor wear. The movement is
marked: 38053. Swiss, 21 jewels, 7 Adjustments, C. H. Meylan
Brassus. The inside of the watch case is stamped 18 k, 54246, and
the mark arrow across a C. The watch is in perfect working condition.
It was just overhauled. Size: approx. 46 mm (1.75") overall and the movement 37mm (1.5"). Total weight with movement and crystal is 37.5 grams. In the late 1800s, C.H. Meylan founded the Meylan Watch Company in Le Brassus, Switzerland. Tiffany & Co. was one of the high end retailers who used their movement C.H. Meylan watches and movements have become highly sought after by collectors, and are still very valuable and functional in the modern day....more |
