This miniature cabinet is from my own estate I inherited from my parents. Carefully examining it and with help from experts I came to the conclusion that this beautiful piece of furniture is a marriage of two different era. A very fine Dutch cabinetmaker in the middle of the 19th century in Holland, apparently found the 8 drawers which are from Augsburg, Germany, made around 1620 to 1650, each with inlaid village motifs, and utilized them to build a beautiful table top furniture. The marquetry on the carcass and door is typical of the work being produced during the mid-19th century. The central shelved compartment is lined with blue fabric, There are brass hinges and drawer pulls and elaborate scrolling lock fittings. The sides show rectangular panels and bands of inlaid wood. The cabinet is surmounted by a plinth crown with a sliding top. All resting on distinctive bun feet Many eminent homes in Europe had this type of table cabinet of various sizes. This lovely antique Biedermeier sewing table is crafted of fruit-wood or satinwood with ebony detailing. On the top there is a fine display of wood grains, bordered by marquetry fan-shaped motifs. The rectangular top has a large drawer with compartments for easily accessible storage. The piece culminates in slender cabriole legs that support a small octagonal cabinet with a hinged lid. Circa 1820 The Biedermeier period refers to an era in Central Europe between 1815 and 1848. Biedermeier furniture used locally available materials such as cherry, ash and oak woods.
