Hand painted reverse intaglio crystal flowers pendant, mounted in 14 K yellow gold, circa 1900. The crystal shows fine reverse carving work and skilled hand painting of an iris flower in intricate detail. Reverse crystal was fashionable in the 19th century. The cabochon stone is carved and hand painted in a reverse manner. The deeper is the carving, the more pronounced are the three-dimensional effects. It is usually backed by a thin layer of mother-of-pearl.
