Description: |
9Kt yellow gold pin with nine dangling charms: a black boot with gold cuff, a yellow forearm with gold bracelet, a black and dark yellow pipe, a black leg with gold anklet and rim, a red banjo with gold arm, a tortoise and gold forearm clutching a gold key, a tortoise and gold shoe, a white boot, and a black African woman in a gold native skirt. The pin is gold, engraved with decorative motifs. It opens and the charms are detachable. The "Penca de Balangandan" is a religious object, created by African slaves brought into Brazil. Each balangandan had a meaning of its own; each penca is a set of several charms, symbolizing good luck. Some say the penca was given by a slave master to his slave as a reward for good behavior. | |
