This delightful and elegant child's cup is decorated with figures in the style of the English children's book illustrator Catherine Greenaway (1846 1901) The name KARL appears in the reserve. A variety of children's moods and humors are observed: three crying or pleading children appear to the left of the cartouche, while three other sprightly, hatted figures and a dog appear to the right. This charming cup is in very good antique condition. Impressed on bottom with Meriden Brittania mark, STERLING, and a production number of 950B. In 1898 Meriden Britannia Company ceased to exist as an independent entity and became part of International Silver Company. Size: 5cm high, 7cm diameter |
