This lovely 19th century round box was intended for snuff, pills, or some other small objects. The hand-painted polichrome miniature of a soldier in a blue and red military uniform is wearing a black tricorne hat, riding a white horse in a setting lush with foliage. The figure is reminiscent of portraits and statues of Frederick the Great of Prussia. The painting is signed A. Pesme. There is a tiny chip on the bottom of the box and a hairline crack on top of the cover. The painting has no chips or cracks. The frame that hold the glass is loose.
