Description:
This luminous painting done on oil on canvas highlights a procession of horse-drawn carriages filled with joyful Russian peasants in colorful folk costume as they ride through the snow-filled winter countryside. This type of genre scene is representative of the Bulgarian-born Russian painter, Pjotr Constantine Stojanow (1857-1957), known for his depictions of the Russian countryside as well as historical scenes. Signed "C. Stojanow" at lower right. The gilded wood frame is typical of the period.
