Description: |
This is a sparkling round very fine brilliant cut crystal pitcher with a
geometric design of squares with a sunburst motif on the bottom. In the circular reserve on the side there is an incised golf flag marked "19". The "nineteenth hole" meaning they are enjoying a drink after the game. Fun gift to a golfer. It was made by the English glass house of Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, England. In excellent antique condition. Brilliant cut glass is thick, heavy, absolutely clear and deeply cut. The crystal used in the best cut glass has a high lead content. After cutting, the edges were hand-polished, using pumice or a potter's buffing wheel. The glass sparkles like diamonds and remains very clear, even a century later.
