Description:
Antique Garabagh long area rug circa 1900 from the South East Caucasus. This complete rug with original ends and edges is wool on wool foundation. The blue field with all over offset rows, polychrome hooked boteh each enclosing plants, supported by small flower heads and combs, within a red star flower head and bracket vine border. The term "boteh" refers to the repeat motif in the main field and is thought to represent a leaf form. The reverse knotting detail confirms this to be of the origin as stated. There are some worn areas as shown on the pictures but no tears or repairs. It is not cleaned professionally.
