"On the Beach at Clovelly 1880 Worcester" hand written by the artist
on the back of the painting. On the front lower left signed James
Bradley 1880. This serenely charming work depicts a fisherman
mending nets with his wife standing next to him. She holds a large
wicker basket, pausing a moment in the midst of her daily chores.
Behind the couple there are two crisply rendered fishing boats and
nets drying on a rack, with the sea lapping off into the wide distance
beyond. The atmospheric seaside rendering is complemented by the
quiet introspection both figures evoke. James Bradley was an English painter from Worcester, England born around 1848. Clovelly is a village in Devon, England. The large original carved wooden frame features palmette and beaded borders. The painting is in great antique condition. Some damage only to the frame. Size: 8.5" x 12.5" (21.6 cm x 31.8 cm) framed 18.5" x 22.5" (47.0 cm x 57.2 cm) Auction record: in 2013 GBP 2500 |
