Description:
This rectangular picture frame is made of rich evenly anodized copper, with sterling silver open scrollwork applique on all four corners. An anodized copper back slides seamlessly into the frame, and has a hinged decorative easel. Both the back and easel are incised golden copper and have an IND manufacturers mark in cartouche, for I.N. Deitsch, Inc., 341 Fifth Ave., New York.
At the turn of the century, this was a fashionable retail stretch of Fifth Avenue around the Waldorf-Astoria (where the Empire State Building is today), Tiffany and Gorham were located just a couple of blocks to the north. The Deitsch company was known for silverware and other decorative objects in a contemporary stylish mode, and were active from about 1904 to 1920.
Hallmark found in: Trademarks of the Jewelry and Kindred Trades published in 1915. The frame is in great antique condition. 4-7/8" x 6-3/8" (12.4 cm x 16.2 cm) outside measurement; 3.5" x 5" (8.9 cm x 12.7 cm) picture opening.
