Description: |
This decorative early 19th-century original painting is oil on canvas. Depicts a closely seated group of men and women gathered around two woman playing cards. One man stands apart observing the action, and there is a small dog in the foreground also looking on. An air of mystery and expectation pervades the scene, and the mood is accentuated by the soft, distinct light emanating from an open door beyond. It is signed at lower right. A gilded wood frame completes the scene. Unfortunately I can't identify the painter.
